The first mention of an apple fritter can be dated back to a recipe in England in 1390. With it’s sweet apple cinnamon center and delicious outer crunch, it’s no wonder it’s stayed a staple for so many centuries! This apple sauce fritter recipe is made with North Coast unsweetened apple sauce, but feel free to shake it up a bit with one of our other apple sauce varieties.
INGREDIENTS
3/4 cup of flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/3 cup milk
1 egg
1 tablespoon North Coast Apple Sauce
1 large apple, minced
1/3 cup sugar
2 tablespoons cinnamon
Vegetable oil for frying
INSTRUCTIONS
Mix the flour, 1 tablespoon sugar, baking powder, salt, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon in medium bowl. In a separate bowl, mix milk, egg, and apple sauce until combined. Mix in with the dry ingredients, before folding in the apples. Add 1/3 cup of sugar and 2 tablespoons cinnamon to large Ziploc bag. Set aside. Heat about 2 inches of oil in heavy skillet, Dutch oven or deep fryer to 375° degrees. Drop batter into oil by small spoonfuls. Cook for 1 minute, turn and cook another 1-2 minutes. Drain on paper towels for 1-2 minutes. Place in Ziploc bag with cinnamon sugar mixture and shake gently until evenly coated with cinnamon sugar mixture. Enjoy!
